چکیده

The non-linear response of a bubble to an acoustic field results in the scattering of sumand difference-frequencies when two frequencies are incident. This has in the past been used to size bubbles. since it is only when the pump frequency. wp' is near the bubble resonance that the non-linear effects are observed. In addition. the subharmonic frequency emitted by the bubble can combine with the imaging frequency. Wi. to produce scattered signals at Wi ± (Wp /2). In this study. the ability of these signals to accurately size and resolve bubbles. both singly and in arrays. has been studied.

Blood Brain Barrier Disruption by Focused Ultrasound and Microbubbles: A Numerical Study on Mechanical Effects

Introduction: Microbubbles are widely used as contrast agent in diagnostic ultrasound. Recently they have shown good potential for applications in the therapeutic field such as drug delivery to the brain. Recent studies have shown focused ultrasound in conjunction with injected micro-bubbles could temporarily disrupt blood-brain barrier and let therapeutic agents transport into...

Prediction and suppression of HIFU-induced vessel rupture using passive cavitation detection in an ex vivo model

BACKGROUND Occlusion of blood vessels using high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is a potential treatment for arteriovenous malformations and other neurovascular disorders. However, attempting HIFU-induced vessel occlusion can also cause vessel rupture, resulting in hemorrhage. Possible rupture mechanisms include mechanical effects of acoustic cavitation and heating of the vessel wall. ME...

Bubble breakup in a turbulent shear layer

The breakup of a millimetre size buoyantly rising bubble encountering a horizontal plane turbulent jet is experimentally investigated using high-speed shadowgraphy and acoustic techniques. The bubble diameter to jet height ratio is 0.75 and the jet height based Reynolds number is 4000. The high-speed imaging was recorded at 7 kHz simultaneous with hydrophone output at 100 kHz. Bubble breakup ev...

Subharmonic behavior of phospholipid-coated ultrasound contrast agent microbubbles.

Coated microbubbles, unlike tissue are able to scatter sound subharmonically. Therefore, the subharmonic behavior of coated microbubbles can be used to enhance the contrast in ultrasound contrast imaging. Theoretically, a threshold amplitude of the driving pressure can be calculated above which subharmonic oscillations of microbubbles are initiated. Interestingly, earlier experimental studies o...

Modeling and investigating the effect of ultrasound waves pressure on the microbubble oscillation dynamics in microvessels containing an incompressible fluid (Research Article)

Understanding the dynamics of microbubble oscillation in an elastic microvessel is important for the safe and effective applications of ultrasound contrast agents in imaging and therapy. Numerical simulations based on 2D finite element model are performed to investigate the effect of acoustic parameters such as pressure and frequency on the dynamic interaction of the fluid-blood-vessel system. ...
